Rachel -- Love your show -- you rock. Ok, here's one for the for you. With all the hoopla going on with President Obama's speech on Wed. to the children in America -- "He is going to poison our little ones minds and introduce them to socialism. etc." -- On the Friday Sept.4th - the 5pm and 6 pm NBC local news showed a clip that in Dallas the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders went to a school in Dallas and brought book bags to the children. You might say -- what's wrong with that? Well, they went in their costumes -- clevege showing, midriff showing and their short little outfits. Now, these gals have great bodies and are beautiful -- not one parent or school official said anything about that -- What kind of message did this bring to the girls in that class? -- That they have to have great bodies and etc., to succeed in this world? I'm not a prude -- I wear shorts and stuff with clevege showing too -- but not to school or church events. I just felt this was a little contradictory with all the comments coming in about our President.

MY WIFE AND SON UPON RETURNING FROM A SERVICE CALL WERE APPROACHED IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT BY A DISGRUNTLED REPUBLICAN MAN WHO WAS ANGRY BECAUSE WE HAD OBAMA / HILLARY AND DEMOCRAT BUMPER STICKERS. HE BEGAN SHOUTING AND CURSING MY WIFE AS SHE WAS SPEAKING TO ME ON HER CELL PHONE. I TOLD HER TO DRIVE. HE CHASED HER, TOOK PHOTOS OF OUR VEHICLE AND SAID HE DID NOT WANT TO SEE US IN HIS NEIGHBORHOOD AGAIN! HE SAID HE HATED REPUBLICANS AND INTENDED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! HE ATTACKED MY SON COMING OUT OF THE STORE. I RACED OVER AND CALLED THE LOS ALTOS POLICE WHO SAID THEY WOULD FIND HIM AND HAVE A TALK WITH HIM AS IT WAS A FREE COUNTRY. NEVER HEARD BACK!
THE 2ND INCIDENT WAS NEAR ATHERTON AND I GOT A CALL FROM A MAN WHO SAID HE WAS BEHIND OUR VAN AND SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF DEMOCRATS LIKE US THAT OUR COUNTRY WAS FAILING AND HE FELT LIKE CRASHING INTO THE VAN! HE WAS GOING TO TELL ALL OF HIS FELLOW REPUBLICANS NOT TO USE OUR BUSINESS AS WE WERE BAD AMERICANS. I CALLED MY SON IN THE VAN AND TOLD HIM TO TAKE PICS OF THE SURROUNDING CARS. HE DID AND COME TO FIND OUT THIS MAN WAS SO STUPID THAT HE CALLED ME FROM HIS CELL PHONE THAT REVEALED HIS PHONE NUMBER! I FOUND OUT WHO HE WAS AND WHERE HE LIVED IN REPUBLICAN LAND!

As an Alabama native, I am stupified that our State Constitution provides for advance directives for the dying yet most in this state are alarmed by Obama's Health Care Program. This advanced directice, which can be found at Ala. Code 1975,
Section 26-1-1, et seq., provides when the "advance directive for health care shall become effective," and even includes a "model" advanced directive form that one merely has to complete (in accordance with other provisions of Alabama law that govern the making of a will-and that are also specifically stated therein), makes medical or other decisions for the testator/testatrix in the event that he or she becomes too sick to speak for him or her self. It is my understanding that most, if not all, of our sister 50 states' respective codes contain similar provisions.

Given the lack of any meaningful concern about the purpose or intent of Section 26-1-1, et seq., expressed by Alabamians at the state level, I am mystified by the concern expressed by Americans at the national level about a federal statute that also allows our citizens to make exactly the same kinds of decisions, only with input from their own health care professionals. If I happen to be out-of-state and become irreversibly comatose or otherwise impaired, I would hope that decisions that I made in my Alabama Advanced Directive would also control the law governing whatever state or federal jurisdiction in which I am located when I become impaired. Otherwise, there would be little incentive for citizens of Alabama or any other state to make an advanced directive.

This of course, begs the question what is the true intent of those on the right wing for voicing their alleged concerns about the availability of a national advanced directive. Perhaps if the real intent of these politicians were to do something other than to instill irrational fear in our elderly voters, their concerns might be given more credence. Unfortunately, because the legal premises on which the right and far right have based their alleged concerns about a national advanced directive have little to do with reality are incredible and unworthy of belief, they have not been taken seriously by the vast majority of American voters. The only ones who who really seem to have been influenced by the misinformation being spread by the Republican fear-mongerers are the same voters to whom their false concerns were directed--the elderly and those in poor health--who deserve better.

Hi Rachel,

You're fabulous, and I love watching your show, but... There is one area that you almost never touch on and I think maybe you need just a tad bit of education on the subject, then perhaps you'll consider it a more prominent issue; It is that of climate change and global warming. Please bear with me and "hear" me out. Many global climate scientist are now saying we could set evolution and the state of this planet back FOUR BILLION YEARS.

Most people concerned with global warming have no idea just how dire the situation is, and are unfamiliar with two aspects of environmental change, namely; Global Dimming and Methane Clathrates. Over the last 30 or so years particulate pollution has masked the effects of global warming, by perhaps as much as 50% by shading us from sunlight (insolation). As stronger anti-particulate pollution measures world wide go into place this phenomenon is beginning to reverse itself and we'll be getting more sun and therefore hotter here very soon.

The second aspect methane clathrates, As you probably know methane is now leeching from the permafrost in the arctic areas where there may be up to a billion tonnes stored. With methane being 10 to 20 times (depending on who you ask) more potent a green house gas than carbon this will have a horrific effect on the climate. But these amounts are nothing compared to the deposits under the North Atlantic Sea, something on the magnitude of over 10 TRILLION tonnes of methane that once it begins to leech cannot be stopped. Should this happen life on this planet will face an extinction level event the likes of which has not been seen for 250 MILLION years. or even as I mentioned before setting us back four billion years by wiping out ALL life on this planet but those very very few micro-organisms that can survive in extreme heat.

You have such a wonderful way and are so widely respected among progressives, I hope you'll take some time and use your platform to educate people about the seriousness facing our planet due to our own lack of action here in the U.S. and not setting a good example and putting pressure on China and India as their power infrastructures expand drastically. Just how long can we wait before it is too late? Politics and economy is important, but this is like having a asteroid the size of England heading towards us, and having the technology to stop it, but doing nothing. This madness has got to stop and it takes people like you held in such high esteem to bring to the attention of the people.

It's time you got your collective acts together and actually worked on solving OUR problems. My question to you is that if you are so concerned about our economy, and the rising debt, why not forgo your salary for a year to lower the debt ceiling? Work for $1.00 a year, without the hidden perks that corporations sneak under the table to their upper management. I think that someone who professes such extreme devotion to their nation would do absolutely anything to serve the cause in a positve way

I own a small business in West, Palm Beach Fl. I would like to know how to
get a grant to help my small business grow because the President says it's
there but it's not middle class are the back bone of this country We need help to.My company builds cabinets but you can't find any grant, or small business
loan all you can find is grants for Women, Hispanics, Pakistans, or other
minorities but not for guys like me .The President should realize that if the
middle class can't get ahead that this country will fall into a major crack
in which we can't come back from what are we to do.I love your show

Dear Rachel.

I have a question about the dems and repubs that oppose our presidents budget if any of them are economic majors or if economics was part of something that they studied in college because if not i think as an american i will stick with my president who i believe talks to economists everyday and would probably know best on how to fix this mess we find ourselves in. It bugs me that the dems especially have broken rank like they have and i think they need reminding that the people who voted them in are paying close attention to what is going on. My own personal theory is that this is about getting re elected that this is about money for campaigns. Maybe i need a talking down lol Love your show keep up the good work!

I live in Texas, God help me. The state is beautiful, the weather is fantastic, the people can be great fun.... until you discuss politics.

I was born in Iowa, raised in a thinking progressive family, I have a solid Republican brother, and a solid Democrat sister. I have landed some where between... I have always voted the issues and the man (or woman) rather than the party. Have I voted Rupublican? Yes. Have I voted Democrat? Yes. I am a registered as a Democrat, but generally I like to think of myself as an Independent thinker.

I married into a right wing conservative family. For 25 years we have somehow kept the peace, we have disagreements, but for the most part we respect one another's opinions and have enjoyed the debate. I love this family, they are my children's grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousin, and over the years the bond has grown deep.

There has always been my brother-in-law, the Rush-head... a little extreme but harmless. But now he has found his soul-mate, so enter the new sister-in-law... the great big haired, fake nailed, too much make-up southern stupid sister-in-law. I don't see her much, and when I do, she seems nice enough, but she keeps sending these incredibly offensive emails, usually about how right Rush is or how wrong Obama is, although Obama is usually referred to as "Curios George" or something equally offensive. Usually, in an attempt to keep the family peace, I just delete them without acknowlegement, but tonights email was particularly disturbing. I've attached it below. Tell me, how would you respond to this? I'd like to delete it and forget it like all the others, but it appears to me that this may have a snowball effect.... how long should I let it go before I am as guilty as she is?

I really respect your opinion, I know you're not Ann Landers... but I'd really appreciate if you would help me out on this one.

point...

Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does

make a good point.

This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments

in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points....

Someone finally said it... How many are actually paying attention to

this?

There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans,

Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans. You pass me

on the street and sneer in my direction.

You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman'

... and that's OK.

Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ... You call me a racist. You say that

whites commit a lot of violence against you... so why are the ghettos

But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer

running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a

I am proud...But you call me a racist.

On "Executive Bonuses"

Wouldn't it be cool if the honchos of Citicorp, Bank of America, and institutions of that ilk gave their bonuses to humanitarian projects and organizations that have suffered the most by the economic downturn. It would elevate them tremendously in the public eye, could possibly provide them with a tax break, and wouldn't seriously affect their lifestyles. What else would they spend it on? I could live righteously for the rest of my life on a tenth of one of those bonuses. Maybe a brave exec could step forward and support the lady on welfare with octuplets and sparing California taxpayers the burden of doing it.

I could not think of a more rude and unnecessary comment about any human being, much less our president. You people claim and think you are compassionate? Rachel, I thought the "goodbye good riddance" headline displayed below President Bush's picture was in extremely poor taste. Once again this points out the hypocrisy and complete bias of your show. The idea of getting objective news from your show is just never going to happen. I'm sure you will be screaming about any disrespect shown to your messiah, Barrack Obama, but you have no trouble showing complete disrespect to the departing President Bush.

Rachel: Congratulations on a very successful show. First let me say that I start with Morning Joe, watch news at noon, 1600 Penn. Ave until Katie comes on at 6:30 After CBS News, I go to Hardball, Countdown and then your Show. since I grew up in DC, I enjoy politics.
With that prelude, let me give you a gripe to pass on to the MSNBC Powers that Be. That was too much repeat coverage of the NY City plane crash I finally gave up and watched Joe Biden's Senate speech the second time around. If MSNBC is "the Place for Politics" where was the analysis of Holder's testimony, where was the commentary on the Senate's passage of the release of the next set of funds, why did Vitter (or is it Bitter) vote against Hillery? These are issues (among many others) of long term importance for the Country. I realize that plane crashes are important and worth a little time which was given to it on 1600, but the rest of the night was repeats and second hand analysis of events. As soon as you started to talk about the plane crash, I turned you off. Sorry but enough is enough.

I just watched Maddow's so called "response" to the presidents speech. The American President is just about to leave office and that's how you talk. You make a very hard but extremely sad attempt to be witty and funny by mocking our leader. True he has not made all the best decisions for this country, but he is still our leader. When un-patriotic, rating-seeking people like that make comments its utterly insulting. When we have a leader whether or not they were our choice we should unite under them, isn't that what you liberals said to do for Obama after Clinton's defeat? Do you even consider yourselves Americans? You have no national pride what so ever and all you care about is your ratings and the accomplishments of your own favored politicians. You make light fun out of our wars and come dangerously close to mocking 9/11. Its bad enough our President had to deal with the mocking of the entire international community and the disapproval of his own people, but it is despicable when the ones who mock him most are fellow Americans. He is leaving as President, his 8 years of history, which like it or not is American history. Maddow sat there with a smug smile and made an insulting, non-humorous mockery of America, because he is the man who represents us, and if he did not earn our approval he can at least receive our respect. This is because he did make the tough decisions, some of them bad but because of judgment, not intent. How can our country unite and be strong if people like you just keep trying to rip it apart by the head just for your own interests? That response was and embarrassment and an insult to this great nation and its people. When our leader steps down, we give him our respect for being there to make the decisions when they had to be made, not by joining the world by laughing in his face. It is our duty as Americans to have pride in our nation, you never had to make those decisions, how dare you show so much disrespect for the one man who gave up so much to his job as he addresses his fellow Americans as our leader for the last time. Shame on you for you have brought shame upon our country. I am disappointed and disgusted on how you made light of his speech and jokes of the past hardships through which he lead us. It is sad when a country loses its sense of unity and turns on its leader as he bids farewell. You have disappointed me as the media that reports the news, and especially as American citizens.
